Saturday College Football Contrarian Value Scores — September 5, 2026
Contrarian Value is about more than fading the public. The goal is to identify situations where one-sided betting may have helped create a better number on the other side — and where the current price is still supported by the matchup and broader market context.
For Saturday’s college football slate, we reviewed the highest-attention and highest-sentiment games to find the strongest contrarian pricing opportunities.
Top Contrarian Value Plays
Texas has become a less-popular side despite still showing support from independent power-rating work. The move in the market has improved the price on the Longhorns, making this the strongest contrarian-value setup in the group.
Cal has moved from a small favorite to an underdog, creating a meaningfully better number for anyone who already believed the matchup was close to even. That price improvement gives Cal legitimate contrarian appeal.
Auburn has attracted the stronger betting support, while Baylor is now getting the valuable hook above 7. With independent projections also giving Baylor a case at the current number, this is a solid moderate contrarian-value spot.
Houston has some independent value support, but the market has not created enough additional price improvement to elevate this into the stronger CV range.
Boise State is drawing meaningful support in parts of the market, but the independent projections on Oregon are too divided to call the favorite a stronger contrarian opportunity.
Other Games Reviewed
East Carolina, North Texas and Marshall may still have betting value at their current numbers, but each is also attracting enough support that they do not stand out as true contrarian-value opportunities.
Clemson–LSU remains too mixed from a pricing standpoint to force a clean contrarian conclusion. When the evidence is conflicted, FSP would rather leave a game off the board than manufacture a signal.
How to Read the CV Score
70–100: Strong contrarian value
50–69: Moderate contrarian value
30–49: Limited contrarian value
0–29: Little to no contrarian value
Contrarian Value is only one part of the betting process. A high CV score does not automatically make a wager an official pick, and a lower CV score does not mean a wager has no betting value.
Bottom line: Texas -30.5 is the strongest contrarian-value setup from Saturday’s highest-profile games, followed by California +2.5 and Baylor +7.5.
BET WISELY.
