Liberty at Delaware: Flames -7

Official FSP Pick: Liberty -7 (-105) — ★★★ — 1 Unit at Risk (1% of bankroll).

Liberty travels to Delaware on Friday, October 2 for a 7:00 PM ET kickoff. We are backing the Flames to build on their recent improvement and win by more than a touchdown in their Conference USA opener.

Explosive Passing Gives Liberty Separation Potential

Deshawn Purdie brings a downfield element to Liberty’s offense, entering this matchup with seven touchdown passes and 779 passing yards. His connection with Da’Shawn Martin gives the Flames a way to generate scoring opportunities without relying entirely on long drives. Kam Davis provides balance on the ground.

A Defense That Can Make Delaware Work

Liberty has limited opposing passing efficiency and enters off consecutive wins over Ball State and Coastal Carolina. The Flames have also finished games well, holding opponents scoreless in the fourth quarter through their first four games. That is encouraging for a road favorite that needs to protect a lead and continue creating separation late.

Liberty last played Thursday, September 24, while Delaware played Saturday, September 26. The additional preparation time is a useful advantage heading into this Friday matchup.

The Challenge in Newark

Delaware deserves respect at home. Nick Minicucci has experienced receiving options, and the Blue Hens’ pass rush has produced 14 sacks. Liberty must keep Purdie out of obvious passing situations and avoid giving Delaware short fields.

The Flames’ one-point escape against Gardner-Webb earlier this season is a reminder that their recent improvement still needs to hold up. Delaware’s heavy loss at Virginia alone is not the reason to lay points here. Our preference comes from Liberty’s offensive explosiveness, defensive performance and extra preparation time.

Official Play
