Saints vs. Raiders Pick: Back New Orleans in Its Home Opener

New Orleans returns to the Superdome after opening the season with two demanding road games. The Saints came within a point of Detroit before winning in Baltimore, and we like their chances of building on those performances against Las Vegas.

Official FSP Play: New Orleans Saints -3 (-120) — ★★★★ — 1.5 Units at Risk.

Shough Gives New Orleans a Path to Sustained Offense

Tyler Shough has completed 62 of 90 passes for 662 yards and four touchdowns through two games. Against Baltimore, he completed 27 of 34 for 252 yards and helped finish the comeback with a late rushing touchdown. Chris Olave gives him a reliable target, and that passing production is the foundation of our case for New Orleans.

The Saints need to start faster. They have scored only six first-half points this season, leaving themselves too much work after halftime. Returning home should help communication, but sharper execution and fewer drive-killing mistakes will matter more than the atmosphere alone.

Make Las Vegas Sustain Drives

The Raiders deserve credit for their 2-0 start, including a road win over the Chargers. Their defense has created opportunities, and Kirk Cousins has thrown six touchdown passes while taking only two sacks. New Orleans cannot afford to hand that offense short fields.

Our case is that the Saints can make Las Vegas work harder for its scoring opportunities. Chase Young carries no injury designation, and pressure from Young and Carl Granderson would help disrupt Cousins before receivers can get open. The Raiders have averaged 298 yards of offense per game; forcing longer drives would test whether their scoring pace can continue without as many favorable situations.

The Matchup That Could Decide It

Pass protection is the biggest concern for New Orleans. Shough has already been sacked eight times, and Asim Richards steps in for injured left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. against a Raiders defense with eight sacks of its own. The Saints need quick answers against pressure and protection help where necessary.

Las Vegas tight end Brock Bowers is questionable with a knee injury. His availability could change how difficult it is to defend the Raiders underneath. We are not treating him as ruled out.

Why the Three Matters

At -3, a New Orleans victory by exactly a field goal returns the stake. A win by four or more cashes the wager. That protection matters in a matchup where the Raiders’ pass rush can keep the game competitive.

FSP Verdict

We are backing the Saints’ passing offense and return home after two challenging road tests. New Orleans has shown it can compete against strong opposition, and we favor its ability to put together enough sustained offense to win this matchup beyond a field goal.

New Orleans Saints -3 (-120) — Four Stars — 1.5 Units at Risk.
