FSP COLLEGE FOOTBALL TOP 25
2026 PRESEASON EDITION · Our independent current-strength ranking of the 25 best teams in college football.
FSP TOP 25 ≠ AP POLLThis board is our current-strength assessment, not a copy of media voting. Polls, roster quality, quarterback play, coaching, continuity, depth and current information all inform the ranking.
The Board
Strongest to weakest entering the 2026 season. Preseason expectations matter, but FSP is ranking who we believe is strongest right now—not projecting final records.
1
Oregon
NATIONAL TITLE TIER
Dante Moore returns behind one of the deepest and most experienced rosters in the country, especially along the defensive front.
2
Ohio State
NATIONAL TITLE TIER
Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith give the Buckeyes elite offensive upside; the biggest question is replacing major defensive losses.
3
Notre Dame
NATIONAL TITLE TIER
CJ Carr, offensive-line experience and a deep secondary give the Irish one of the most balanced profiles in the country.
4
Georgia
NATIONAL TITLE TIER
The roster remains championship caliber; the ceiling depends on Gunner Stockton becoming the difference-maker at quarterback.
5
Texas
NATIONAL TITLE TIER
High-end talent is everywhere, but offensive-line consistency will determine whether the Longhorns convert talent into dominance.
6
Indiana
CFP CONTENDER
The defending national champions have earned respect; quarterback transition is the main reason they sit just outside our top five.
7
Miami
CFP CONTENDER
Explosive offensive potential and a strong roster keep Miami in the championship conversation.
8
Texas A&M
CFP CONTENDER
The talent level is playoff worthy; the Aggies need steadier week-to-week execution to justify a higher slot.
9
Ole Miss
CFP CONTENDER
Roster investment and offensive upside make the Rebels dangerous, though the margin for error in the SEC is thin.
10
Oklahoma
CFP CONTENDER
Quarterback upside gives the Sooners a path to outperform expectations if the offense becomes more consistent.
11
Texas Tech
PLAYOFF CALIBER
One of the strongest Big 12 rosters on paper, with enough depth to make a real playoff push.
12
LSU
PLAYOFF CALIBER
A high-ceiling roster and quarterback talent make LSU dangerous, but there is more volatility here than in the top tier.
13
Alabama
PLAYOFF CALIBER
The talent floor remains enormous; FSP wants to see whether the Tide can regain the week-to-week dominance expected from this roster.
14
USC
PLAYOFF CALIBER
The schedule and offensive ceiling create real upside if the Trojans finally pair scoring with consistent defense.
15
BYU
PLAYOFF CALIBER
Experienced, disciplined and difficult to beat; BYU has fewer obvious weaknesses than many teams ranked around it.
16
Michigan
TOP-20 STRENGTH
A physical identity keeps the Wolverines relevant, but offensive explosiveness remains the key limitation.
17
Penn State
TOP-20 STRENGTH
There is enough talent to climb quickly, but a transfer-heavy roster and new leadership create more uncertainty than usual.
18
Washington
TOP-20 STRENGTH
The Huskies remain one of the deeper second-tier Big Ten teams with a path to surprise contenders.
19
Tennessee
TOP-20 STRENGTH
Athleticism and offensive pace keep Tennessee dangerous, but consistency against elite defenses is still the question.
20
Utah
TOP-25 CALIBER
Coaching, physicality and defensive structure make Utah a team FSP rarely wants to underrate.
21
SMU
TOP-25 CALIBER
The roster has enough speed and offensive firepower to remain a legitimate ACC threat.
22
Iowa
TOP-25 CALIBER
Defense and special teams keep the Hawkeyes competitive; any meaningful offensive improvement raises the ceiling.
23
Clemson
TOP-25 CALIBER
FSP is slightly more optimistic than the AP voters: the talent base is still too strong to dismiss after one down season.
24
Houston
TOP-25 CALIBER
A legitimate Big 12 dark horse with enough roster quality to punish teams that overlook them.
25
Missouri
TOP-25 CALIBER
The Tigers hold the final spot because the roster is solid across units, even without an obvious elite trait.

Our college rankings establish a baseline view of team strength. They are one input in game-specific analysis—not a bet by themselves. Matchup, injuries, situational factors, market movement and the sportsbook price still determine whether FSP releases an Official Pick.
