Friday College Football Sentiment Scores — September 4, 2026
Friday night’s college football slate gives FSP its first full Sentiment Score board. Unlike Game Attention Score, Sentiment Score is wager-specific: it measures how strongly the overall betting information environment supports a particular side or total on a 0–10 scale.
10 = overwhelming sentiment in favor of the listed wager. 5 = mixed or neutral. 0 = overwhelming sentiment against it.
The scores synthesize visible betting-media opinion, public-facing market information, web/search narrative, social media discussion, and other available sentiment signals. They do not tell FSP what to bet. Heavy sentiment can be correct — or it can help create an expensive, crowded price.

| 4 | Toledo at Michigan State | Michigan State -9.5 | 7.5 / 10 |
| 5 | LIU at Kansas | LIU +41.5 | 7.2 / 10 |
| 6 | North Carolina A&T at Georgia State | Under 62.5 | 6.8 / 10 |

| 8 | San Jose State at Eastern Michigan | Eastern Michigan -2.5 | 5.8 / 10 |
1. USC -21.5 — Sentiment Score 8.8
USC is the clearest crowded position on the Friday board. The Trojans have the brand power, a Week 0 win already in hand, and broad betting-media support. Multiple major previews favor USC to control the game, and the public-facing narrative is heavily focused on another strong offensive performance.
FSP read: Strong sentiment does not make USC a bad bet. It means FSP should be especially careful about whether the market has already charged a premium for the comfortable side.
2. Miami -24.5 — Sentiment Score 8.4
Miami enters ranked No. 7 with national-title expectations, a major talent advantage, and widespread expectations that its offense will produce immediately. The visible media and betting environment strongly favors Miami as the superior side.
3. Purdue -36.5 — Sentiment Score 7.7
Purdue receives strong support largely because of the FBS-versus-FCS talent gap and expectations that Indiana State will struggle to keep pace. The number is enormous, which introduces some resistance, but the dominant narrative remains a comfortable Purdue victory.
4. Michigan State -9.5 — Sentiment Score 7.5
Michigan State has meaningful backing in a more competitive market. The Big Ten brand, coaching transition, roster investment, and home field are driving much of the favorable narrative, while Toledo still receives enough respect to prevent this from becoming an extreme sentiment reading.
5. LIU +41.5 — Sentiment Score 7.2
This is the most interesting underdog-sentiment setup of the night. Several visible handicapping sources have made the case for taking six touchdowns with LIU, citing Kansas’ historical difficulty covering massive numbers and the possibility of a conservative second half once the game is controlled.
6. Georgia State–North Carolina A&T Under 62.5 — Sentiment Score 6.8
The strongest visible betting argument in this lower-attention matchup is toward the Under. North Carolina A&T’s possession-heavy style and limited Week 0 scoring have created skepticism that the matchup needs to reach the market’s relatively high total.
7. UTEP–Oklahoma Over 51.5 — Sentiment Score 6.1
The Over still has a visible edge in the public conversation, driven by Oklahoma’s offensive expectations, a healthy John Mateer, the massive talent gap, and the possibility that the Sooners threaten the total largely by themselves. But this is not an overwhelming consensus: legitimate Under analysis is also easy to find.
That mixed environment is exactly why our published UTEP–Oklahoma Under can simultaneously be unpopular while still having a legitimate independent-value case.
8. Eastern Michigan -2.5 — Sentiment Score 5.8
This is the most balanced sentiment game on the Friday slate. Eastern Michigan is a small home favorite and receives a modest lean from predictive coverage, but San Jose State has enough support and recent offensive credibility to keep the market conversation close to neutral.
What Stands Out?
The highest-sentiment wagers tonight are USC -21.5 and Miami -24.5. Those are also two of the highest-Attention games on the board, which makes them especially useful for measuring whether heavy public confidence is influencing price.
Meanwhile, LIU +41.5 is notable because the strongest visible sentiment is actually on the huge underdog rather than the major-brand favorite.
Sentiment Score tells us what the information environment believes. It does not tell us whether that belief is correctly priced.
FSP’s next step is always to compare sentiment with independent fair value, market movement, public money, and price. That is where Contrarian Value becomes important.
